WHY A PARCEL TAX?

The current parcel tax expires in 2028. The Marin County Office of Education sets the election dates and in 2027 there will only be Special Elections, therefore, 2026 is the only option.
For more than 30 years, Ross Valley voters have supported local schools through a parcel tax which makes up for the lack of funding RVSD receives from property taxes and the state. For more than 30 years, that local funding has paid for: smaller classroom sizes, attracting and retaining highly qualified educators, counseling and student support services, among other things. However, the existing school parcel tax has not kept pace with rising costs.
Updating our local school parcel tax is critical to maintaining our excellent local public schools.

WITHOUT A PARCEL TAX:
RVSD faces $1 million in cuts, which will include making cuts to programs students dearly love. These cuts will directly effect the classroom and our kids. including:
-
Reductions to TK
-
Reductions to Art, Music, PE
-
Reductions to academic support services and student counseling
-
Potential School Closures
If no parcel tax is passed by November 2026, our schools will face consolidations, portables, less space for learning and playing, ultimately creating much larger class sizes. In 2027-28,RVSD would go into 'state receivership', which means we lose control to the state.
